8 activities your child can take part in during festivals

Here are some festive activities that children can take part in.

Festivals are a time of merrymaking and enjoying with family, friends and relatives. And children are an active part of the celebration. Here are eight activities that parents can involve their children in to make them participate in the festivities.

Go shopping: Take your child out shopping to buy bright festive clothes, household goods or other items needed for the celebration. Let your child pick and choose some of the items to make him or her feel more involved.

Clean the house together: Parents can ask their children to assist in cleaning the house or doing some household chores. To encourage your child, work as a team while also giving him or her some autonomy in choosing the colour of curtains or sheets, for instance.

Make snacks together: Festivals are about indulgence, which cannot be complete without savouring delicious foods and drinks. But before treating your child to delicacies, encourage him or her to take part in preparing food together. Choose some quick and easy recipes for your child to help you make them.

Make crafts/ decorations: Encourage your child to contribute to the festive decorations in the house. Instead of dictating the process, encourage your child to be creative with material and make new crafts.

Meet relatives: Neither parents nor their children are able to socialise much with their friends and relatives, thanks to their busy schedules. Festivals are, perhaps, the only time when families find time to meet others, exchange gifts and celebrate the festival together. You can also arrange play dates for your child.

Attend events: Festivals are mostly coupled with events and parties to add to the mood of the carnival. Choose events or parties after discussing it with your child while encouraging him or her to prepare for the same. Do not force your child to attend an event that he or she is reluctant to be a part of.

Plan a vacation: One can also plan a family vacation to a weekend getaway around the time of the festival. Introduce your child to the culture, traditions and people of the place of visit. Allow your child to pack his or her own bag for the trip, with some help, of course.
