You’d think as a Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel would be immune to body shaming. But just like the rest of us mere mortals, the 29-year-old is feeling the pinch to ‘bounce back’ after giving birth to her second child – and she’s not stoked about it.
Taking to Instagram stories, Candice clapped back at haters who made fun of her post-partum belly.
“This is me 12 days after having my son,” she captioned a series of paparazzi shots. “If you have something bad to say about it… check yourself. Society can be so cruel to one another. Beauty standards are sometimes impossible for women these days.”
“I’m not ashamed to show my postpartum tummy. I am proud actually. I carried my son for nine months in there. I think I’ve earned the right to have a little tummy… is it because I’m a model? Well we are normal people too so let me enjoy the beach in peace please.”
Candice continued her BoPo sentiment in a second post, this time, sharing snaps of herself mid-pregnancy.
“I don’t have to hide my stomach because people have unrealistic standards of [women],” she wrote. “We create life.. what can you do? Ladies we are all in this together… be kind to each other.”
Pregnancy brings about huge changes your body – celeb or not. So, let’s all take a leaf out of Candice’s book and celebrate this, rather than criticise it.
