High blood pressure warning – sexual symptom of deadly hypertension you shouldn’t ignore

High blood pressure is a common condition that affects more than a quarter of all adults in the UK. You could be at risk of hypertension if you develop erectile dysfunction, it’s been claimed.

High blood pressure – which is also known as hypertension – puts extra stress on blood vessels and vital organs.

The condition could lead to some deadly complications, including strokes and heart attacks.

It’s crucial that your hypertension is diagnosed as soon as possible.

You could be at risk of high blood pressure if you have erectile dysfunction, scientists have revealed.

Hypertension may lead to thickened blood vessels, which reduces blood flow.

This reduction also impacts the penis, which may subsequently lead to erectile dysfunction.

Around two-thirds of men with high blood pressure have reported some kind of erectile dysfunction, scientists claimed.

In the general population, just 10 percent of men have erectile dysfunction.

“New research suggests that high blood pressure is a risk factor for erectile dysfunction in men,” said nutritionist Dr Sarah Brewer.

She wrote on her website MyLowerBloodPressure.com: “Both hypertension and erectile dysfunction are associated with abnormalities of blood vessel linings (endothelium) which affect how they dilate in response to normal triggers.

“These abnormalities may lead to increased production of blood vessel constrictors, increased sensitivity to angiotensin II [another vasoconstrictor] or reduced production of nitric oxide – a powerful blood vessel dilator.

“The drugs used to treat hypertension can also affect sexual function.”

You should speak to a doctor if you experience erectile difficulties, she added.

Impotence is a very common condition, and it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have hypertension.

It may also be caused by stress, tiredness, or anxiety.

Erectile dysfunction is more likely to develop in men over 40 years old, and it’s usually nothing to worry about.

You could lower your risk of high blood pressure by eating a healthy, balanced diet, and by doing regular exercise.

High blood pressure is often known as ‘the silent killer’, because symptoms only tend to reveal themselves if you have extremely high blood pressure.

It’s crucial that all adults over the age of 40 check their blood pressure at least once every five years.
