Jack W. Jennings, MD, PhD, an associate professor of radiology, has been named chief of musculoskeletal radiology for Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Jennings , who also is the director of musculoskeletal and spine intervention procedures, came to the School of Medicine in 2003, as a resident with MIR. He also completed his fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology at MIR and then joined the faculty.
“Jack has shown expertise and innovation in the field of musculoskeletal interventions and has grown this service tremendously at MIR,” said Richard L. Wahl, MD, the Elizabeth E. Mallinckrodt Professor and head of radiology, and director of MIR.
In 2014, Jennings created a multidisciplinary metastatic spine disease working group composed of experts in the fields of medical, radiation and surgical oncology, and interventional radiology. This led to published recommendations for the treatment of metastatic spine disease.
Jennings has presented at several national radiology and musculoskeletal society meetings, including the World Conference of Interventional Oncology, Society of Interventional Radiology and European Conference of Interventional Oncology and the American Society of Spine Radiology, where he serves on several committees. He is involved in multiple studies and is the principal investigator on a national study examining spine tumor ablation and another focused on bone cryoablation, a treatment that uses extreme cold to kill cancer cells. He treats patients at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Siteman Cancer Center.
Jennings earned his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine, where he also earned a PhD in anatomy.
