A teacher reunited with her students just 24 hours after brain surgery to remove a tumour.
Despite doctors saying the brain tumour was likely to be ‘benign,’ Katherine Meucci underwent the procedure to remove it as swiftly as possible.
But the 39-year-old – who has been teaching at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School for seven years – was determined not to let the surgery interfere with her work.
Just a day after her operation, on October 14, Katherine held a Facebook Live to read a story via video link to her students, from her hospital bed.

Katherine, from Pittsburgh, created the closed Facebook group Franklin Bedtime Stories a few years ago – so students and teachers could read bedtime tales to others from the school.
The day after her surgery the teacher read out Mr. Walker Steps Out by Lisa Graff and reassured her fourth grade students that she will be back to school as soon as possible.
Katherine also explained her appearance to the youngsters.
In the video, she said: ‘I’m sorry if I look a little weird.
‘I got this black eye going on right here because they cut open my head right here to take out my brain tumour.
‘You are my friends and you are an important part of our school community.
‘I look a little funky, but I wanted you to see and know that I’m OK.’
Katherine’s motto since she started teaching 17 years ago is ‘strong and brave’ – so she was keen to show her students that she was sticking to her saying.
Doctors also think they were able to remove the entire tumour on October 13, which means Katherine should be back in her classroom (in the flesh) very soon.
