Words of wisdom! Royal nutritionist Gabriela Peacock is sharing her breast-feeding secrets for new moms after the royal baby’s May 6 arrival.
“Breast-feeding can be a rocky road, but if you have access to the proper advice and help, you’ll soon learn how to stay on track,” the expert said in her Nutrition Guide for New Moms.
She went on to list nursing tips from avoiding painful mastitis with massages to engaging in skin to skin contact as a milk supply boost.
As for a new mom’s diet while breast-feeding, Peacock recommended cutting down on cow’s milk and strong-smelling foods, including spicy curry, that could unsettle an infant. She went on to advise, “[Drink] no more than one to two units of alcohol one or two times a week, and one to two cups of tea/coffee per day. Instead, opt for water, milk, herbal tea and fresh, unsweetened fruit juice instead.”
The nutritionist added: “Eating a wide variety of foods is a good idea — not just for nutrient diversity, but it will expose the baby to different tastes and may result in them being more receptive to solid foods later on.”
When it comes time to wean a little one off of breast-milk and transition to baby food, Peacock revealed that it’s “best to start with single flavors and then start mixing.” She even shared a recipe, featuring steamed apple chunks blended with a pinch of cinnamon.
“If they don’t like it once, try not to despair,” Peacock wrote. “Just keep trying.”
The former model was a guest at Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s wedding when they tied the knot in May 2018. Five months later, the royal pair announced that they were expecting their first child. Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor arrived on May 6.
Peacock has previously worked with the royal family, reportedly helping out Harry, 34, before his nuptials, as well as Princess Eugenie ahead of her October 2018 wedding.
