Ariana Grande has been slowly revealing the album art for her forthcoming record Sweetener on her Instagram grid, square by square. As of yesterday, the puzzle pieces have come together to reveal an upside-down close-up photo of Ari herself. Now that the secret's out, celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton has come forward to claim responsibility for the platinum hair and (gasp) low ponytail that grace the cover. He took to Instagram with a right-side-up version of the Sweetener album art with the caption "Blondie @arianagrande ? Love this glam #chrisappletonhair @patrickta."
Appleton is best known for his celebrity hair transformations; he most recently dyed Kim Kardashian's hair a deep navy. He's therefore a fitting choice for the new aesthetic Ariana is rolling out with this album — although, judging by her Instagram Stories, her hair is already back to brunette and gathered up in her high pony once again. The quick transformation makes sense, as Appleton has spoken often about how difficult it is to maintain platinum hair. "This is not only one of the biggest transformations your hair will undergo, it’s also one of the most compromising. Do not try this at home. If you’re not going to be patient with the process and committed to looking after your hair, then it’s not for you," he says. It may come with a heavy workload, but fans are loving the platinum on Ariana.

The caption also clues us into Ariana's makeup artist, Patrick Ta, who has worked with Gigi Hadid, Rihanna, Shay Mitchell — basically every star whose beauty look you've ever tried to channel. Ta's aesthetic occupies a middle space between no-makeup makeup and a full Instagram beat; his clients tend to look refreshed and completely like themselves. The theme for Sweetener is a very fitting soft pink. Ta built out a baby pink smoky eye and soft pink-tinted lip with matching apple-cheeked blush, capped off with big, big, big lashes. If you're going to apply the logic "go big or go home" to a beauty look, where better than on your own album cover?
