Sarah Hyland Dyed Her Hair Red for Spring

If I told you that an actor best known for playing a Dunphy sister on Modern Family had just dyed her hair red, it would be completely understandable if you assumed I was talking about Ariel Winter. After all, she's been known to switch up her color quite a bit, choosing red more than once. But this time around, the redhead is Sarah Hyland, and the coppery color looks incredible on her.

Perhaps inspired to go red for fast-approaching St. Patrick's Day, Hyland wrote on Instagram, "Getting back to my Scottish/Irish roots 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️🇮🇪," to accompany a stunning selfie in which she reveals her warm new auburn hair color. Her naturally curly hair is blown out and shaped into smooth, loose waves that reveal the nuances of the bold shade.

Stylist Nikki Lee of Nine Zero One salon in West Hollywood is responsible for the beautiful transformation.

"Taking someone red is easier said than done. Depending on the porosity of the hair, at times a red color can grab drab," Lee said in an email, noting that she'd pretreated Hyland's hair with In Common’s Crystal Cashmere treatment, which helps strengthen chemically treated hair. "She's been wanting to do this change for a while and we finally did it. It's perfect for her skin tone and adds a fun flair for spring."

Although a big change like going from a brunette to a redhead is best left in the hands of the pros, Lee says Hyland's new color is something everyone should consider trying. "As the weather warms up, it’s a great time to warm up your hair," she tells Allure, not to mention shades of red are one of the biggest hair-color trends for 2021. "I love a copper red as it is a change that can work on more people than you think."

Hyland usually sports dark brown hair, though she's been known to have golden-blonde highlights, too. She even attempted a pink look last year that she seemed to immediately regret, blaming Venus retrograde for the unexpected outcome. But the stars were definitely aligned in her favor for this new red hue.
