A US woman was “harassed” and “humiliated” in front of fellow passengers after trying to board an American Airlines flight with a breast pump.
Kelsey Myers was travelling from LA to Chicago on May 6 when she was stopped by an employee and told she had “too many” items to proceed through the gate.
“I explained to him my breast pump is a medical device and the small cooler was breast milk. And he still told me I need to check my bag,” she wrote in a Facebook post. “He told me to step aside and said he was calling a supervisor.”
Instead of mediating the situation, Kelsey proceeded to be publically mum-shamed by the supervisor.
“In a condescending tone, [the supervisor] screamed in front of about 50 people waiting to board the flight ‘how many boobs do you have?’”
“I have never felt more harassed, disrespected and humiliated in my life,” continued. “She would not reason at all and continued to scream at me in front of everyone so I eventually just gave in and checked my bag.”
When she finally did board the plane, Kelsey noted there was ample space overhead and that “one guy even came with a skateboard and two bags.”
Speaking with Fox News, she admitted the ordeal had caused her significant distress:
“Do I want to be carrying around 60 ounces of breast milk and ice pump? No, I’m doing it for my baby. I was already stressed to be away from my baby, stressed about the pump, and to have to deal with people who are so disrespectful and a woman on top of it, it’s kind of mind-blowing.”
The post has been shared over 200 times, and American Airlines have since reached out to offer her a credit.
“I don’t even care about the money, I want people to be held accountable for what happened, I want an apology, I want people to be trained so this doesn’t happen again,” she tweeted.
