She won the Silver Logie for Best Actress on Sunday night, but Jessica Marais wasn’t present to accept her award, due to undisclosed health reasons.
Last week, her management released a statement requesting privacy and announcing that Marais was “disappointed” to miss the Logies this year.
Now, the Australian actress has opened up on Instagram, thanking the fans that voted for her and hinting at what she’s going through.
“Can’t believe I won a Logie last night.!” she wrote. “@misstap thanks for being a stylish, eloquent, vixen legend and taking the speech plunge for me, I love you. And to @grantdenyer, your speech moved me to tears. And gives me strength. Courage in the quiet battle.. congrats mate.”
She also thanks Gold Logie winner Grant Denyer for his speech, in which he touched on his own experience with his mental health. Marais said it “moved her to tears” and “gave me strength.”
News.com.au reports that Marais was admitted to private mental health hospital The Sydney Clinic in Bronte two weeks ago. According to the clinic’s website, it specialises in mood and anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, drug and alcohol detoxification and addiction.
Marais has spoken publicly about her experience with bipolar disorder before; in 2014, she shared that she was diagnosed at the age of 12 and that her family has a history of the condition.
