Who says becoming a mother means sacrificing style? Not these celebrity moms.
While no one would argue that parenthood depicts the more practical side of life — baby spit up, diaper changes, and messy art projects don’t lend themselves to the most polished looks — having kids can also kickstart identity changes as they pertain to personal taste, self-confidence, and daily routines.
For example, Ciara says since becoming a mother to Future Jr., 7, Sienna, 4, and Win, 1, she’s relied on fast fashion. “I think there’s something kind of cool to me not having much time,” she told People in 2018. “It kind of makes my fashion choices, I think better because you end up whooping things together and end up discovering something really cool.”
Angelina Jolie keeps her style legacy intact by lending her iconic gowns to daughters Zahara and Shiloh, and Gwyneth Paltrow stays humble by taking fashion advice from daughter Apple and son Moses (who, according to Paltrow, prefers that his movie star mom dresses “very conservatively”). Meanwhile, mother-of-three Blake Lively has fought for diversity in the high-fashion world after learning that sample sizes didn’t easily fit her postpartum body.
But it’s not just celebrities who undergo a fashion transformation with motherhood — 78 percent of women change the way they look after having kids, according to an online poll of 2,000 moms conducted by the footwear brand Shoe Zone. Among those polled, 40 percent wore shoes with shorter heels while 18 percent opted for a more practical hairstyle.
And that’s not a bad thing! Having kids expands our hearts and our lives so it makes sense that our fashion choices evolve as well. Read on to learn which celebrity moms are ruling the fashion world.
