Elon Musk's Twins' Names Have Been Revealed — & Surprise, They're Actually Sort of Normal

Ahead of their second birthday in November, Elon Musk is revealing the names and first photo of his twins, who he welcomed via surrogate with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis in 2021.

The X (formerly known as Twitter) owner welcomed biographer Walter Issacson to Zilis’s Austin home, per an excerpt from TIME. He revealed the toddler’s names are Strider and Azure. Issacson also shared two photos, including one with Strider wearing a striped onesie with jeans and sitting on his mom’s lap, and Azure wearing a yellow floral top with blue leggings and sitting on her dad’s lap on a couch on the porch.

They are super cute — and their names are pretty normal (no X, Y, or number in sight!). Azure has English and French origins and means “sky-blue.” Strider is an English name that means “walker”. Considering that his 21-month-old daughter with Grimes is named Exa Dark Sideræl (and goes by “Y”) and his 3-year-old son is X Æ A-12 (and goes by “X”), these names are fairly ordinary. We’re just so glad we can pronounce them!

The Space X and Tesla CEO is also dad to 19-year-old twins Vivian Jenna Wilson and Griffin, and 17-year-old triplets Kai, Damian, and Sax, with ex-wife Justine Wilson. (The two also had a son named Nevada, who died at 10 weeks.)

Issacson shared two photos to X, the one with Zilis and Musk and their twins, and one with Musk and Y looking at a robot. This post stirred up some drama for Grimes, who posted a tweet demanding to see her son, X. (Yes, having Twitter named X and his son named X can be very confusing!)

“Tell Shivon to unblock me and tell Elon to let me see my son or plz respond to my lawyer,” she wrote in a now-deleted comment, per Jezebel. “I have never been allowed to see a photo of these children until this moment, despite the situation utterly ripping my family apart.”

It sounds like there is some major family drama happening between Musk and Grimes, which isn’t surprising. He welcomed his twins just one month before Y was born via surrogate — yikes! This is likely what Grimes is referring to when she said the twins with Zilis is “ripping my family apart.”

In a April 2022 interview with Vanity Fair, she talked about her “fluid” relationship with Musk. “There’s no real word for it. I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid. We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time…. We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect other people to understand it.”

She went on, “This is the best it’s ever been…. We just need to be free.” They also planned to have more kids together. “We’ve always wanted at least three or four.”

In Aug. 2023 interview with Wired, Grimes gave an update on her kids. “I’m here for [Elon taking X to business meetings]. X knows a lot about rockets. It’s crazy. He knows more about rockets than me,” she said.

“We had to stop giving him toys, because if they’re not anatomically correct, he gets upset. He’s a little engineer, for sure,” she continued. “But his obsession with space is bordering on, ‘Is this healthy?’ When X saw Starship blow up, he had, like, a three-day PTSD meltdown. Every hour, he was waking up and going, ‘Starship …’ and I had to rub his back.”

As for Y, “she’s a little engineer too.” Grimes added, “She likes industrial shipping. She’s very strange.”
