How To Improve Your Relationship Based On Your Enneagram Number

The Enneagram is the newest personality evaluation trend that has many people learning more about themselves. After taking the test, many people gain potential clues about their interests, behaviors, and even insight into their relationships. There are nine types, including Type 1, The Reformer, which is a perfectionist. Type 2, The Helper, is generous. Type 3, The Achiever, is driven. Type 4, The Individualist, is expressive. Type 5, The Investigator, is thoughtful. Type 6, The Loyalist, is committed. Type 7, The Enthusiast, is spontaneous. Type 8, The Challenger, is confident. And Type 9, The Peacemaker, is agreeable (via The Enneagram Institute).

Enneagram teacher Jenn Jett explains, “We usually — subconsciously — go about our lives assuming that if everyone would act, think, and feel the same way we do, that life would be less complicated,” (via Brit + Co).

Of course, since that’s not the case, it can be beneficial for people to know how to improve their long-term relationships, all based on the Enneagram.

This personality test can help lead to better conversations and deeper bonds

Type 1s can be hard on themselves, but they understand that not everyone functions in the same orderly and driven way. Relationships with these people like this should include praise, flexibility, and reminders that everyone messes up. For Type 2s, honesty and loyalty are super important so opening up to them will go a long way. In a relationship with a Type 3 personality, remember to recognize achievements. Showing appreciation will show there is a lot of love.

Type 4s are so unique and vibrant; those close to them should be ready for anything. Type 5s are all about truth, fact, and knowledge. In particular, in disagreements, these individuals need space and time to think things over. A Type 6 can be skeptical at times, but they must learn to embrace the unpredictable, practice trust, and slow down a bit.

When it comes to relationships that involve Type 7s, it is vital to incorporate reassurance. The bond should provide a safe space that is consistent and feels like home. A Type 8 can come across as confrontational, as they are not always comfortable with listening to others and letting go of control. Patience and communication will be key for everyone involved.

Finally, for those who identify as Type 9s, communication is also a big factor. They may take their time to respond, and they expect their loved ones to be upfront with them.
