I initially thought masturbating every single day for a week was going to be the easiest assignment I’d ever received. I’m not afraid to admit that I already partake in healthy solo seshes pretty frequently, so when presented with the opportunity to up my masturbation quota, I gladly took the challenge. Seven days later, I was singing a different tune. It turns out this was a pretty difficult assignment. Why? Time, anxiety, and life. We’re all busy people with a lot to do. I travel a lot, I’m single, and I’m always tired. As a result, just like for many women, orgasms often wind up taking a backseat to my other obligations.
That said, the commitment was totally worth it. During seven days of nonstop-masturbation, I discovered so many unexpected things about my body, and its threshold for pleasure. Now, I totally have a newfound appreciation for masturbation. Even as a sex-journalist and educator who spends a ton of time sexually experimenting, I was impressed with this one-week trial. And I highly encourage all you ladies out there give it a try for yourself.
Here are a few things I learned about my own pleasure after masturbating every day for a week:
THE MORE ORGASMS YOU HAVE, THE MORE YOU WANT
If I’m being honest, the first few days of consistently masturbating was, in a word, annoying. But once I passed the three day mark, I suddenly found myself itching to get to it.
Before I began this experiment, I loved having orgasms, obviously. But after getting down with myself every single day, I started to crave my next masturbation sesh like no other. The more orgasms I had, the more I wanted. I felt relaxed after having one, would go about my day, and then would want to spend some quality time with my vibrator again later. Masturbating is less like scratching and itch and more like unleashing the sexual energy within.
THERE ARE A ZILLION WAYS TO TOUCH A CLITORIS
I have my go-to moves with masturbation. I know which toys work best to get me there quickly. But after masturbating every day, I found myself wanting to spice it up and try new things.
Not to mention, if you’re masturbating every day, multiple times a day, your clit can get a little desensitised. It isn’t permanent, but when you over-stimulate, it can take your body a minute to recover. I found it took more and more to achieve orgasm. Meaning I had to change it up with myself to get the same level of pleasure.
By the end of the week, I was adding in some nipple stimulation, and mixing G-spot stimulation in tandem with clitoral. It was a sexual smorgasbord.
ORGASMS HELP YOU SLEEP

During my little experiment, I tested out masturbating at different times of day, from sunup to sundown. But as it turns out, ending the night by getting my pleasure was the absolute best option.
I noticed that I actually slept better when I masturbated before bed, plus my mind and body felt calmer as I dozed off. Three words, my friends: Orgasms are magical.
IT’S ACTUALLY HARD TO FIND TIME TO MASTURBATE
Over the course of the week, I found it was kind of difficult to find alone time for myself. Most of us have a million obligations, deadlines, and projects we’re working on. We’re pulled in multiple directions, trying to help everyone at the same time. It turns out I have less time in the day than I realised. And let’s face it: Masturbation can be pretty time consuming.
This week in particular, I was especially stressed. I even considered pressing pause on my masturbation week and an extension on my story. But I stuck with it, and now that the week is over, I’ve come to appreciate how important it is to make that time for yourself. The assignments will always be there and deadlines will always be looming. We have to take time to take care of ourselves.
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD HAVE MULTIPLE VIBRATORS

YOU MIGHT FANTASISE ABOUT SOME WEIRD STUFF
We all have a go-to fantasy that gets us hot and bothered, stat. But during my week of masturbation, I quickly got bored of my favourite Idris Elba fantasy and had to get a bit creative. Even my porn choices needed revamping.
While seeking out new turn-ons, I found that I was into things I never thought to think about or watch before. Who knew I could be down with random clips from RedTube? I’m usually more highbrow than that. Point being: Getting out of my usual masturbation rut helped me discover a whole new world of hot fantasies.
At the end of the day, however, the biggest benefit of masturbating for a week straight was how it helped me expand my sexual horizons without having to factor in another person. It is a lot like meditation in that you have to concentrate, clear your mind, and focus on yourself.
