The movie Girls Trip is getting attention for a lot of reasons, but one scene in particular has captivated people. In it, actress Tiffany Haddish (who plays Dina in the movie) demonstrates something called the “Grapefruit Method,” an oral sex technique involving, well, a grapefruit.
This wasn’t made up by the movie’s writers — it’s actually a thing. And Jada Pinkett-Smith, who plays Lisa in Girls Trip, says her husband Will Smith told her about it ages ago.
“Will was the first one to tell me about it years ago — 10 years ago,” she said on Sunrise. “And I was like, ‘Are you trying to tell me something?’”
While the Grapefruit Method has apparently been around for a while, it went viral in 2014 thanks to a tutorial video from someone who goes by the name Auntie Angel of Angel’s Erotic Solutions. “This is my bonus technique,” she says in the video, before launching into how it actually works. (In Girls Trip, Dina teaches her friends the move by using a banana and grapefruit as props.)
It’s actually pretty easy to do this. Simply cut off the top and bottom of a grapefruit and cut a hole in the middle of it. Slide it onto his penis and twist it. You could also implement tips from Auntie Angel’s explanation of it, which is amazing.
“Say baby, ‘Tonight, I want to do something a little freakier. I want to suck your dick blindfolded,’” she says before adding, “Your man will blindfold himself if he knows he’s going to get some head.”
Then, once he’s erect, slide the grapefruit on and give him oral while twisting the grapefruit for a little extra pressure and friction.
Of course, such a freaky manoeuvre opens itself up to a lot of questions about Smith’s interest in it. Namely, did he and Jada ever try this? If you walk into the Smith household, are there grapefruits sitting in the fruit bowl? Is there a specific type of grapefruit that this is best accomplished with? What are the potential hazards here?
Jada-Pinkett didn’t reveal whether she and Smith have actually tried the technique, but Auntie Angel told TooFab that there’s one thing the movie didn’t get right. “Use a condom,” she says. “There are chances that citrus can get into his urethra, and he can have a bad experience.”
