What are endocrine glands?

There are many glands in the body that make up the “endocrine system”. These glands are the pituitary, hypothalamus, thymus adrenals, thyroid, parathyroids, pineal body, ovaries (in women) and testes. These glands are small, but they’re very important organs that release hormones (also called chemical messengers) into the bloodstream. The hormones that these glands release each have specific functions in your body.

For example: The testes are endocrine glands that are located in a guys’ scrotum (also called ball sack). They release hormones called androgens, such as testosterone. When released, testosterone causes a guys’ voice to become deeper, facial and pubic hair to grow, and it’s also needed to produce sperm.
