Women’s Health is excited to announce the back-flipping superstar Sam Kerr as the Women’s Health Sportswoman of the Year 2017.
Sam was no stranger to the sporting world with both her father and brother playing professional AFL. Following their lead, she dominated the footy field, kicking goals in AFL before switching codes to soccer at the age of 12.
Some of the 24-year-olds career highlights to date include a record-breaking hat-trick, and currently being the leading scorer in the National Women’s League. Earlier this year she was awarded the Julie Dolan Medal, earning herself the title of best player in the highest women’s soccer league in Australia.
The Matilda’s forward is the first Australian male or female to have been nominated for the 2017 FIFA Cup. She has been described by the ABC as “Australia’s best footballer”.
She gives Tim Cahil a run for his money with her iconic post-goal backflipping celebration.
