Patients who take prescription-only medication for Parkinson’s (Neupro) and epilepsy (Vimpat) are being given an urgent warning as the products may not be fully effective. The warning has been issued by The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) who explained disruptions during the distribution means they may not longer worth. Patients can check their medicines by looking at the affected batch numbers on the packaging and they should contact their GP if it affects them. This is the full list of affected products.
Following new information, we have issued this further alert to ensure pharmacies have the information they need and to protect public health.

The packs which are affected are Kosei Pharma UK Ltd, MPT Pharma Ltd, Drugsrus Ltd / P.I.E. Pharma Ltd and Doncaster Pharmaceuticals Group Ltd.
Britons should check for pack in the original Italian packaging with the UK manufacturer’s label as these are being recalled.
Other packs which are in Italian packaging with the Kosei Pharma UK Ltd, MPT Pharma Ltd, Drugsrus Ltd / P.I.E. Pharma Ltd or Doncaster Pharmaceuticals Group Ltd label are also being recalled.
Ones which been re-packaged in the UK manufacturers box with this batch number on are also affected.
The fault comes as the product was taken out of the regulated medicines’ supply chain during distribution and later re-introduced.
This means the correct transport and storage conditions can not be guaranteed and the products could be less effective.
The MHRA have undertaken a medical assessment of the products to determine whether there is any risk to patients and the medicines are being recalled as a precautionary measure.
Although it is unlikely the medication is now ineffective, their could be serious consequences for patients if this is the case.
Those who have one of the products affected should continue taking their medicines and contact their GP practice to arrange a new prescription.
Once the new prescription is given, patients should return the affected batches to their pharmacy.
The recall has been extended by Kosei Pharma UK Ltd, MPT Pharma Ltd, Drugsrus Ltd / P.I.E. Pharma Ltd and Doncaster Pharmaceuticals Group Ltd.
The MHRA have issued an alert to pharmacies to ensure they check all packs and return the affected ones to their supplier.
Dr Andrew Gray, Deputy Director of the MHRA’s Inspection, Enforcement and Standards Division, said: “Making sure the medicines people and their families take are acceptably safe and effective is the primary role of the MHRA and is our highest priority.
“When we are made aware of potential risks to the security of the supply chain, the MHRA takes action to protect the public.
“Following new information, we have issued this further alert to ensure pharmacies have the information they need and to protect public health.”
