We Got a Sneak Peek at the New Hatchimals Toys

I have to admit, until last month I was among the Hatchimals uninitiated. That is, until the very last thing my son and I did on The Outside (ie, pre-quarantine), which was attend a Hatchimals preview event here in Nashville in early March, aka precisely one hundred years ago. And boy am I glad we did, because it turns out Hatchimals — like so many of their “opening them is the best part” toy brethren — are one seriously amazing item to have on hand when quarantined with a kid.

Why, you ask? For one thing, they’re cute little toys — that happen to usually come in packs of more-than-one. And I don’t know about your kids, but there are few things my kid enjoys more than making multiple tiny creatures/fairies/what have you talk to each other in squeaky voices and fly all over the house together. That’s the Hatchimals win #1.

But the bigger win, perhaps, is that half the fun of Hatchimals is — you guessed it — the hatching. These critters come in eggs, hearts, and more that kids get to crack open with gusto to reveal the toy surprise. It’s like some sort of very adorable, sparkle-filled version of Jurassic Park up in my living room all day as my kid births these creatures into the world, names them, and creates whole universes populated by them. So yes, basically it’s all very weird and wonderful at the same time. Just like, you know, most of quarantine with kids.

Up ahead, check out all the Hatchimals fan favorites and soon-to-be new launches, from collEGGtible (get it?!) pets to flying (literally — gasps guaranteed) fairies.
