There’s no ideal way to find out that your partner is cheating on you, but thanks to modern technology, there are at least more ways to learn the truth. This week, NFL Network correspondent Jane Slater has shared the story of how she discovered her boyfriend was being unfaithful after his Fitbit data exposed him.
The couple had both previously synced their Fitbit devices, so when Slater didn’t know where her boyfriend was at 4 o’clock in the morning, she checked her Fitbit account. Let’s just say, he was getting in some exercise.

Responding to a tweet about that notorious Peloton ad, Slater described her own horror story of receiving a fitness gift at Christmas. “An Ex Boyfriend once got me a Fitbit for Christmas,” she said. “I loved it. We synched up, motivated each other… didn’t hate it until he was unaccounted for at 4am and his physical activity levels were spiking on the app.”
“Spoiler alert,” she added, “he was not enrolled in an OrangeTheory class at 4am.”

Although she was heartbroken at the time, and said she “sobbed uncontrollably” when she found out, she also tweeted that “it’s a story my friends and I def laugh about now.”
Of course, your Fitbit tracker can be used for far more than checking up on your partner: earlier this year Brendan Romele shared his experience of using a fitness tracker to lose weight. “Once I started to see the downward trend in my weight through app, I wanted to keep it going,” he told Men’s Health.
With the newest Fitbit model being positively reviewed and compared to the Apple Watch, it’s likely that plenty more people will be receiving one for Christmas this year — here’s hoping Slater’s story is the exception, not the rule.
